"Let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my hair
A home for fleas
A hive for bees
A nest for birds
There ain't no words
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
Of my hair..."
- Hair The Musical
In 1999, a group of men in Adelaide, South Australian created the name "Movember" with the idea of growing mustaches in the month of November to raise money for the RSPCA. It was a separate group, however, with the same name out of Melbourne, Australia that brought the event to its current worldwide stage. This Movember charity organization raises money for increasing awareness for a variety of men's health issues including prostate cancer and depression. Since its inception in 2004, the group has raised over $299 million dollars and has 1.9 million users registered.
But growing beards isn't anything new to the University of Houston. In its heyday, one of Frontier Fiesta's most popular and exciting events was the Fiesta Beard Contest. Male students from all across campus entered to strut their stuff, showcasing a glorious display of mustaches, goatees, mutton-chops, etc.
November 1st is just a few days away, but why wait? Give that razor some time off and let that stubble settle in! Today's images come from the UH Frontier Fiesta and the UH Campus Life collections.
