U.S.S. Houston Memorial

Today Houstonians will once again take time to honor the sacrifice of the crew of the U.S.S Houston (CA-30). The survivors have maintained a tradition of gathering at the U.S.S. Houston Monument, Sam Houston Park in Houston, TX to mark the anniversary of the U.S.S. Houston sinking at the Battle of the Suda Strait on March 1st 1942 and the ordeal that the survivors suffered through as prisoners of war. Anyone interested can click here for more information about this event.

The M.D. Anderson Library features excellent Special Collections exhibits. Currently on the second floor of the library is a display focused on the U.S.S. Houston (CA-30),

Appropriately the UH Digital Library has a wealth of related material. The UH Digital library has many images of the Blue Bonnet a shipboard publication for the crew of the U.S. S. Houston, as well as personal correspondence and photos.
