America Recycles Day

Today is America Recycles Day, the only nationally recognized day encouraging Americans to recycle and purchase recycled products. Started by the National Recycling Coalition in 1997, it has been promoted and organized by Keep America Beautiful since 2009. While the amount of recycling in the United States still leaves much to be desired, it has seen significant improvement over the last 15 years with an overall recycling rate of 32.5%.

The University of Houston is an active force in recycling in the community. If you've been on campus, you've likely seen the many recycling containers located in most buildings. The University of Houston also has an office of sustainability, supporting efforts to keep UH green and publishing campus recycling statistics to keep track of how the university is doing in their efforts.

Get involved in the community on America Recycles Day and show you care about the environment!
